BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, FEBRUARY 2ND 2010 (CUOPM) – Grenada’s Leader of the Opposition, Dr. the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell is praising the people of St. Kitts and Nevis for choosing progress instead of promises.

In a congratulatory message to St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas on his St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party’s re-election for a fourth consecutive term, Dr. Mitchell noted that “unlike the situation in Grenada almost two years ago, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis understood the need to let progress continue.”

Dr. Mitchell, whose New National Party (NNP) is a fraternal affiliate of the opposition People’s Action Movement (PAM) in St. Kitts, noted like him, Prime Minister Dr. Douglas was referred to as "Jonah" by the PAM during the recent election campaign.

“When the St. Kitts and Nevis leader was referred to as Jonah; he reminded his people that they should not throw Jonah overboard and stop the progress,” said Dr. Mitchell in his congratulatory message.

According to Dr. Mitchell, “the overwhelming support received by Douglas’ Labour Party and the unprecedented mandate he received to govern the country amidst a global crisis is a clear indication of the confidence and trust that the people of St. Kitts have in his leadership.”

The former Grenada Prime Minister said he spoke to Dr. Douglas by telephone and extended best wishes to him as he continues to lead the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.
