Four (4) students, two from the St. Theresaâ¬"s Convent School and two (2) from the Washington Archibald High School are the recipients of awards for their outstanding literary writing skills in the 2005/06 TDC/Harris Paints (Dominica) Secondary School Essay Competition.
For penning the top two essays, on the topic â¬SWhat role does a Regional Paint Manufacturer and its Local Distributor play in a Countryâ¬"s developing Tourism Industry?,⬠Mr. David Paulius and Ms. Shauna Tucker of the St. Theresaâ¬"s Convent School took first and second place honours respectively.
The overall winner (Paulius) received a trophy and a cash prize of five hundred dollars (EC$500.00) and Tucker, who placed second received three hundred dollars (EC$300.00), as well as a trophy.
Ms. Nakita Isles and Ms. Nakita Liburd, of the Washington Archibald High School both tied for third place and received cash prizes of two hundred dollars (EC$200.00) each, along with trophies.
In addition to the prizes that were awarded to the students, the winning Schools received a combined total of thirty (30) gallons of paint (25 gallons to the St. Theresaâ¬"s Convent School and 5 gallons to the Washington Archibald High School) to further enhance each schoolâ¬"s learning environment.
Two the (2) separate presentations were held at the schools, which were attended by staff and students, along with representatives of TDC, and Ms. Roslyn Sorhaindo, Sales and Marketing Manager of Harris Paints.
Ms. Sorhaindo, in handing over the awards to the deserving students and school officials, expressed her Companyâ¬"s pleasure in being associated with the Educational Advancement initiative.
â¬SHarris Paints (Dominica) Limited partnered with TDC to give students the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills. Moreover, we are pleased to play our part in helping to create a platform for critical thinking, while promoting brand awareness amongst the Youth,⬠expressed Sorhaindo.
In giving remarks on behalf of the TDC Group of Companies, Mr. Noah Mills, Client Relations and Marketing Manager, reiterated the Groupâ¬"s commitment towards scholastic-based programmes.
â¬STDC is proud to establish another project with our Corporate Partner, Harris Paints. This activity allowed us to give students an avenue to develop ideas on paper. The winners performed excellently and not only made themselves and families proud, but also their schools,⬠stated Mills.
The competition is expected to become an Annual fixture on the academic calendars for all Secondary Schools across the Federation.
