    Roadtown, Tortola - Cabinet has approved the appointment of Mrs. Joanne Williams Roberts as chairman of the Financial Services Commission Appeals Board. 

    Mrs. Williams Roberts’ three-year appointment will remain in effect until July 31, 2012. 

    The other members of the appeals board are Mr. Edison O’Neal and Ms. Diana Maduro, who were both re-appointed for three year terms in April, 2008.

     The FSC Appeals Board was established in accordance with the provisions of the Financial Services Commission Act, 2001.
    According to the Act, the FSC Appeals Board should comprise of a legal practitioner with not less than 10 years experience and two other persons with such qualifications and experience as determined by the Board of Commissioners of the FSC. 

    The Act further stipulates that only persons who are not members of the FSC Board of Commissioners and who are not engaged in or connected to a person engaged in a financial services business in the Territory should serve as members of the FSC Appeals Board.

    The function of the FSC Appeals Board is to facilitate the right to appeal by anyone who is aggrieved by a decision of the Financial Services Commission.
