Glenroy Blanchette says thanks to constituents of east Basseterre

Glenroy Blanchette
PAM Secretariat

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, February 5th 2010 (PAM Secretariat) - Fellow Citizens, Constituents of East Basseterre, I wish to thank all the voters of Constituency One for their participation in the just concluded General Elections.  It is also with a deep sense of gratitude that I express my profound thanks to those persons who voted for me or supported my campaign for change. I thank all who prayed for the leadership of the People’s Action Movement.

To my supporters and workers who may be disappointed with the results, I say, “Be not discouraged. God is in the midst of every passing storm. The fight for true democracy continues”.

Six years ago during my launch as a Candidate of the People’s Action Movement I committed myself to do whatever is in my power to educate and to liberate the people of this country.  I am still committed to that pledge as I am a firm believer that it is only through education that we will come to realize that the politics of ‘divide and rule’ must come to an end, and that we must embrace instead, the politics of ‘inclusion’.

The results of the General Elections have strengthened my resolve to fight for true democracy.  In doing so, I will continue to challenge our electoral system which has been designed to facilitate fraud and the imposition of a corrupt political administration.  The fraud was quite evident on Election Day when many persons who never lived in Constituency One were allowed to vote without taking an oath.  And then there was the invasion of scores of foreigners at the Bird Rock Polling Station.

I am therefore convinced that the results of the General Elections do not reflect the will of the people but are a reflection of a bad electoral system that was designed to set up a dictatorship.

Finally, I came out of this election not with a broken spirit but with renewed hope and a greater sense of purpose.  This is not the end.  It is the beginning of a new battle against dictatorship.  So let us arm ourselves with the amazing power of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour as we go into the battle field to confront the enemies of freedom and democracy.

    May God bless our Nation.
