CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – IN celebration of Tourism Week on Nevis, an official opening ceremony took place yesterday (Feb. 5) with a cultural street parade in Charlestown, followed by the renaming of the old treasury building in honour of Arthur Evelyn.
The theme for this year’s event is “Expanding through Linkages” and the week, which commenced yesterday, will conclude on Saturday (Feb. 13).
Among the activities scheduled for Tourism Week are: a Church Service to be held at the Eden Brown Church of God from 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (Feb. 7) and a horse racing event at the Indian Castle Race Track from 2:00 p.m., which will also take place tomorrow.
On Monday (Feb. 8), Oral Presentations will be held at various schools on the island from 8:30 a.m. This will be followed by an exhibition on Nevis’ History at the museum and an Open Day at the Heritage Village at 10:00 a.m.
Panel Discussions will be held on the following day at the Cultural Centre and also on Let’s Talk at 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., respectively. Also, the Nisbett Plantation Beach Club Primary School Quiz will be held at the Cultural Centre at 10:00 a.m. and an Island Expression’s Wine Tasting and Show are slated for the Pinney’s Beach Hotel at 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday (Feb. 11), a Food Fair and Arts & Crafts Exhibition will take place at the waterfront in Charlestown at 10:00 a.m., while a Tourism Gala and Dance will be held on the following day. The curtains will come down on Tourism Week with a Sports Fest at Pinney’s Beach from 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 13).
Speaking briefly with Carl Williams, Chairperson for the Tourism Week of activities, he told this media house that preparations for the events were in place, everything is on track and the public’s response is highly commendable.
“I expect the renaming of the old treasury building to be a spectacular event and the line up is very good, so I am inviting the general public to come on out”, added Williams.
