BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE TDC Group of Companies has issued an official notice to inform the drivers, owners and prospective purchasers of Toyota vehicles that vehicles sold through its Automotive Division are not among the automobiles being recalled by the manufacturer.
After Toyota announced a recall campaign involving over 2 million vehicles, concerns spread as to whether models purchased in the Federation would be affected by this.
However, a February 3 press release issued by TDC, the only authorized Toyota Dealer in the Federation, advised that the recall campaign pertains only to selected vehicles manufactured and sold in the United States.
The release reads, “This recall applies to left hand drive models produced and sold in the US market only. TDC imports its range of Toyota vehicles under an exclusive Authorized Dealership Agreement. These vehicles are manufactured and imported directly from the Toyota Factory in Japan.”
The recall was due to an accelerator pedal design fault in a number of its models. The models that are affected by the recall drive are the 2009-2010 RAV4, the 2009-1010 Corolla, the 2009-2010 Matrix, the 2005-2010 Avalon, the 2007-2010 Camry, the 2010 Highlander, the 2007-1010 Tundra and the 2008-2010 Sequoia.
A release by Toyota further confirms that the models sold in St. Kitts and Nevis are not affected by this recall exercise.
“The accelerator pedal components of the affected models used in the US market are different from the Toyota Models sold in your country. We would like to advise you that there is no cause for concern on this matter,” the Toyota notice stated.
According to The Guardian newspaper, Toyota officials expect the recall to cost the firm US $2 billion (£1.26 billion), including up to £560 million in lost sales. Although it remains the world's biggest carmaker and expects to make a £550 million profit this year, the firm has recorded a 16% reduction in sales in the US alone.
TDC Automotive Management have pledged to continue to monitor any further developments on this recall on a daily basis and thanked its valued clients for their patronage, patience and understanding.
