BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man, who is said to have been in the company of Damian ‘Nashie’ Isaac when he was gunned down in Russell Village, is currently nursing a gunshot wound to his instep at the Joseph N France (JNF) Hospital under police protection.

Reports reaching SKNVibes last evening (Feb. 12) indicated that a number of gunmen had visited the JNF Hospital yesterday afternoon in search of Lingettie Hendrickson and members of the security forces were called in and had to provide protection for the young man.

However, when contacted, Assistant Commissioner with responsibility for crime, Joseph Liburd said the report is false and explained that “once people are shot or injured under the circumstances such as Hendrickson, especially gang-related, police will provide security in the interest of their safety”.

According to a police release, Hendrickson (20) of St. Johnson Village was standing with his friend Isaac “at the junction of Cayon Street and Buckleys Site at about 7:05 am on 12/02/2010 when they were attacked and pursued by two (2) armed masked assailants. As a result of the attack Isaac was shot dead and Hendrickson was shot in his right foot and was taken to the JNF General Hospital where he was treated and detained”.

The release further states, “Isaac was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer but an autopsy will be performed later to determine the cause of death. There are no suspects, however investigations are ongoing. The police are appealing to anyone with information which will assist them with their investigations to kindly contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 466-8351/2 or 465-2241 at Ext.220/231/230/236. Persons are reminded that information given will be treated confidential and may be given annymously.

Isaac’s death has taken the amount of homicides committed in the twin-island Federation for the year to five; three on Nevis and two on St. Kitts.

No one ha so far been held for the previous four homicides, but investigations are ongoing.
