BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man from St. Peter’s Village was reportedly killed last night (Feb. 12) following an alleged shootout with the police in the vicinity of Boyds.

Dead is Nkoma ‘Koma’ Jacobs of St. Peter’s Village, who succumbed to an injury at the Joseph N France (JNF) Hospital after he was shot last night in an alleged shootout with the police.

Earlier today, SKNVibes contacted the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, who stated that at about 10:40 last night, police in the District ‘B’ area were conducting a stop and search exercise in the Boyds/West Farm area where they had established a checkpoint.

“Police reported that a vehicle ran the checkpoint and when the officers tried to stop it, it sped towards them. Someone from within the vehicle fired a gunshot at them and as the police returned fire the vehicle collided.

“Two persons, Jason Carty (26) of New Road and Tristan Fredericks (23) of Lower Monkey Hill ran out of the vehicle but were caught by the officers. A third suspect, Nkomo Jacobs of St. Peters was injured and taken to the JNF Hospital and treated for a gunshot injury,” Henderson said.

He also said that Jacobs was in a critical condition and investigations were ongoing. This media house however received numerous reports that Jacob had succumbed to his injury and efforts to confirm this information were futile until 12:45 p.m. when Inspector Henderson was again contacted.

Henderson inform that Jacobs has since died but was unable to confirm that the injury was a bullet wound to the head, as some people reported to SKNVibes. He however stated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Jacobs' death has taken the total homicides committed in the Federation for the year to six; three on Nevis and three on St. Kitts.

The most recent of these homicides occurred some 15 hours prior to Jacobs’ in the brazen shooting death of Damian ‘Nashi’ Isaac in an alley in Russell Village.
