BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE of St. Kitts’ most talented hip-hop artistes, Dagah, recently released his first music video for his song ‘I’ll Never Give Up’ and mix tape ‘The Calm before the Storm’.

The artiste, who was in the media late last year for his infamous fall off some speakers at the Busy Signal Concert in Nevis and being arrested after a performance a week later, said that he has overcome those issues and is moving up.

And his new music video, ‘I’ll Never Give Up’, reflects his never ending drive to attain success, no matter what obstacles may come his way.

He said that the video highlights the struggles he has experienced throughout his career as an artiste.

“From trying to get people to recognise you as an artiste to trying to sell your own material and getting a lot of rejections, are all about the downfalls in life and the video is more real life experiences,” he said.

He said that some of the scenes from the video would show him moving around in the street from people to people trying to sell his CDs and being rejected. There is also a scene of him being evicted from his home and a video clip from his fall at the Busy Signal Concert.

“The video is produced by Tru Capo, and Nigel wanted to do the video as well and also include me falling off the speakers, just to show what happened and how I’ve moved on from that,” he said.

It took three months for the video to be completed and it was ready for release in December, but because of a number of events occurring around that time, including Carnival, they decided to delay its release.

He is also putting the finishing touches on another video, ‘I Rep’ which will be released sometime this month.

“Rep my city gonna be crazy,” he said. “It has mad cameos in it, and it just shows me representing where I’m from and getting the people to rep their city also. We got a lot of support from a lot of artistes and people to be a part of the video, and Sugar Bowl is one of the persons who has been supportive of this video and made a contribution.”
He is currently selling his mix tape, ‘The Calm before the storm’, which he says is a reflection of what is to come with his debut album.

Some of the songs on the mix tape include ‘Put the pieces back together’, which is a love song; ‘Hugging my pain’, which he describes as a “deep heartfelt real life song”. Dagah also said that he became controversial with ‘To Whom It May Concern’.

“It’s track 13 on the mix tape and it’s a controversial free style track at the end of the album that pinpoints all the issues that has been going on in St. Kitts, specifically in relation to politics,” he said.

The mix tape is being sold for EC$30 and can be purchased from Dagah.
He will be performing this weekend (Feb 13) at the C-Jay album launch at Club Kactus, which will also feature Wayne Marshall.

He will also be at a concert featuring Voicemail next month, as well as an event hosted by another Kittitian artiste, Mykal Somer.

“The music scene in SK right now is popping and I’m really happy to be a part of the movement. I just hope that the people continue to support the artistes,” Dagah said.
