ROSEAU, DOMINICA – LORD KARESSAH has retained his crown as Dominica’s Calypso Monarch when he defeated nine other contestants at the Finals on Saturday, February 13.

Daryl ‘The Bobb’ Bobb was First Runner-up while Tasha ‘Tasha P’ Peltier and Dave ‘Soul Puss’ Pascal were adjudged Second and Third Runners-up respectively.

Karessah sang about the recent tragedy in Haiti during the first round, and followed up with ‘Dog Race’ in the second, which is about the recent elections held in Dominica.

The other participants were: Davidson ‘Observer’ Victor; Chester ‘Daddy Chess’ Letang; Marja ‘Lady Star’ Jeffers; Cecil ‘Checker’ Burnette; Murphy ‘Sye’ Jno Jules; and Joey ‘Explosion’ Lloyd.

In addition to the crown, Lord Karessah won a cash prize of EC$20 000.
The majority of persons commenting on an article posted on dominicanewsonline.com, stated that Lord Karessah deserved to win.

One person said that the calypsonians need to go through some vocal training, while another said they should perform two songs instead of one during the Semi-Finals.

Many persons expressed that Tasha P should have been given a higher placement and should have even won the competition.

“In my humble opinion, I think the young lady deserved that crown. And I have a gut feeling she was punished for her last line in ‘He’s a Boy’, which challenged the judges by saying…‘If you’re male and a judge and a woman cannot win Calypso, He’s a Boy!’ I just loved that line,” said a commentator who also noted that The Bobb’s second song was a carbon copy of WCK ‘Let’s Go Follow the Leader’.

The three newcomers to the Finals were Tasha P, Explosion and Soul Puss.
Murphy ‘Sye’ Jno Jules, whose song ‘Dr. Fingers’ was banned from DBS Radio which stated it was defamatory, failed to place in the competition.
