PORT-OF-SPAIN – FANS of the Caribbean’s top Soca artiste will be disappointed as he has decided to take a break from live performances at this year’s Trinidad Carnival.
According to a press release issued by Rhona Fox, Machel Montano has decided to focus on new projects that are engaging his attention following the recent release of his new album, Album 34.
“These projects include a Bollywood film production, as well as new music which he will be releasing throughout the year,” the release stated.
However, the artiste is eagerly looking forward to seeing his fans when he performs on Thursday, February 18, as the opening act for the Beyoncé Concert.
“This is the first ever appearance in the Caribbean for the world's 'Queen of Pop’, 16-time Grammy award-winning artiste, and promises to be a night of great music and amazing performances by both Machel and Beyoncé,” said the release.
Meanwhile, Montano, who is no stranger to award ceremonies as his work has been receiving worldwide acclaim for decades, has been nominated for five International Reggae & World Music Awards.
The event is set for May 2 in New York.
Montano previously walked away with the top IRAWMA award in 2008 when he was adjudged the Bob Marley Entertainer of the Year. He is also a front-runner for it again this year, stated the release.
Album 34 is now available in stores and persons are encouraged to check their local music and bookstores and other retail outlets for the Album 34 2010 calendar, described as a collector's item from the Soca icon.
