DC releases new track ‘You Can Be’

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DUJON ‘DC’ CAESAR has released a new song titled ‘You Can Be’ and the musical accompaniment was done by Kenny ‘Kenny G’ Richardson, both of Sandy Point.

DC started singing in 2002 and admires artistes such as Sizzla, Vybz Kartel and Joseph Hill of the legendary group Culture.
“I think I’m a combination of those artistes in terms of my style,” he said. It was the Miss Back 2 Roots Queen show in 2008 that opened doors of opportunities for DC, granting him regular gigs on major events held in St. Kitts.

Those events included the Prime Minister’s Peace Concert, Tanya Stephens and Serani Concerts, and the People’s Action Movement Youth Rally Show that featured Vybz Kartel.

This is his year to ‘buss’ says DC as he is preparing to open a studio shortly for his group LOR (Lock Off Records). The other members of that group are Richardson, Eric ‘Hatcher B’ Pemberton and Kailan ‘Kaz’ Wyatt.
DC released his first music video in 2009 titled ‘Can’t Believe it’, which spoke of his disappointment with the negative path the youths of the Federation are taking.

“It’s a big issue for me, it needs more unity instead of this war thing. I try to encourage positivity through my music. When I started singing, however, following the norm, I started singing negative songs but very quickly my style changed because I want to be more positive,” said the Wood Work, and Technical Drawing Teacher at Sandy Point High School (SPHS).
Kenny G grew up with music all around him and became involved in it from a young age.

He is skilled in playing the banjo and also the piano and is the brother of Ruel Richardson, a popular guitarist in St. Kitts. He started creating beats while in form five at the SPHS and said that he grew to love music as it is a way of uplifting people.

“Music also sends a strong message to people and we want to get our message out there and tell people about life through our eyes,” he said.

In terms of the song ‘You Can Be’, he said DC first came to him with a melody in his head and asked if he can create music to it.
Kenny G decided to create the beat with just the right mixture of dancehall and soca, and after the finished product the lyrics to the song immediately came to DC.

The chorus says, “You can be my wife girl, I want you in my life cuz you possess harmony in your eyes.”DC and the rest of LOR are now hoping to make an even bigger impact in St. Kitts by releasing more music this year that will hopefully reach international airwaves.
