BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Washington Archibald High School F.C. (Washie) remains in danger of relegation to the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) First Division after they began their round two play with a 0-1 loss last night (Feb. 18) at Warner Park.
Washie came into last night’s Digicel Premier League match with a record of one win, one draw and seven losses from the first round of play, a dramatic difference from their playoffs reaching performance in the prior two seasons.
Facing off against the reigning Digicel Premier League champion S. L. Horsford’s St. Pauls F.C., Washie had their work cut out for them from the onset.
St. Pauls took control of the match in minute 30 when Kervin ‘Infamus’ Benjamin slotted the opening goal of the game and gave himself an early birthday present ahead of his 21st this weekend.
Washie put in a respectable defensive effort for the remainder of the game and did not allow St. Pauls to slip any more through, but they proved equally unsuccessful on the attack and continue to find themselves searching for their past successes after the 0-1 loss.
Fans at Warner Park last evening also witnessed a hard fought draw between St. Peters F.C. and newcomer 888 Clarence Fitzroy Bryant United F. C. (CFBC).
Both squads have had a mixed season thus far, with St. Peters holding a record of 4-4-2 as they are currently tied for third in the point standings with Coury Gatorade Conaree F.C. Meanwhile, CFBC stands in seventh place overall with their record of 3-1-6.
TDC Newtown United F.C. remain at the top of the table with 30 points overall and a record of 10-0-1 thus far in the 2009/2010 season. They are immediately followed by St. Pauls, whose victory last night moved them to a record of 8-2-0 and a mere four points behind Newtown with one less match played.
The SKNFA’s Digicel Premier League will continue tomorrow night (Feb. 20) at 7 p.m. when Rams Village Superstars F.C. face Conaree at Warner Park.
Then on Sunday evening (Feb. 21) the action will move to the Newtown Playing Field, where Mantab will square off with Washie at 6 p.m. and UDC Garden Hotspurs F.C. will take on CFBC at 8 p.m in a make-up round one match.
