BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – RECEIPTS for the Burt family of Sandy Point have been consistently rolling in and donations by the TDC Group of Companies, Daniel Trading Centre (DTC) and Island Purified Water Ltd. have shown an increased corporate effort to bring relief to the victims of a devastating February 13 fire.

In a brief handing-over ceremony held last Friday (Feb. 19) at TDC’s Sandy Point Branch, company representatives donated EC $1500 in building materials to the family to assist in repairing the burnt home.

Representative of the TDC Client Relations and Marketing Department Dominic Matthew told SKNVibes that after receiving a letter from the Sandy Point-based Community Improvement and Personal Empowerment Organization (CIPEO), the company responded immediately to the needs of the family.

“We feel that we are all our brother’s keeper and not only from a corporate standpoint, but we came onboard to assist the family in their time of need.

“This gesture represents one of several tangible ways we are getting involved in the recovery efforts. Of course our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this point in time as they try to grapple with the loss and try to get themselves back in a state of normalcy,” he said.
Matthew indicated that if called upon to assist the family further, his company would make the consideration so as to ensure the family makes a quick recovery.

A teary-eyed member of the family, Gwenneth Pennyfeather, who lost her six-year old son and two-old niece to the fire, accepted the donation with a solemn thank you.

Coordinator of the Burt Family Relief effort and member of CIPEO Cyndie Demming said significant donations were made by Daniel’s Trading Centre, who provided plumbing fixtures and new bathroom and kitchen facilities.   Doors were donated by Island Purified Water Ltd. and a number of the town’s contractors have been instrumental in the relief effort, she informed.

Demming expects that more businesses would come onboard and support the family as much progress has already been made in repairing the home.
