Village and Conaree draw in thrilling shootout

By: Ryan Haas, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-ACTION in the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) Digicel Premier League continued over the weekend with an exciting clash between Rams Village Superstars and Coury Gatorade Conaree that ended in a last minute 2-2 draw.

Both squads, along with St. Peters F.C., have been jockeying in a close race to remain in the top four spots of the Digicel Premier League in the past few weeks of play and that urgency of victory translated to fast paced action Saturday night (Feb. 20) at Warner Park.

While opportunities were created in the first half of play, neither team was able to capitalize and they entered the locker rooms scoreless.

The second half saw much more scoring, however, after Michael Thompson found the net in minute 54 to give Village the lead.

Superstars maintained their lead for the next 15 minutes, but Conaree striker Byun Morson worked his way upfield to score the 1-1 equalizer in minute 70 and brought hope for a victory back to his side. That hope was then doubled in the 82nd minute when a well-timed attempt from Modassa Howe found the back of the net and gave Conaree the late lead.

As the final minutes of the game ticked away Village still trailed and it seemed as if Conaree would emerge the victor, but with only seconds left in regulation play Steven Clarke slipped one between the posts and earned a much deserved draw.

The outcome meant that Conaree maintains its third place position in the overall points table, but Village remains within a one point striking distance.

The following evening, Mantab and the Washington Archibald High School F.C. clashed at the Newtown Playing Field.

Mantab controlled the play from the onset thanks to goals from Kareem Lowerie in minute 17 and Deshawn Jarvis in minute 39.

Washie failed to rally after the break and Lowerie wormed his way through the flat defense to score in minute 52 and propel Mantab on to the 3-0 victory.

Washie will have a chance for redemption this coming Thursday (Feb. 25) when they return to the Newtown Playing Field to take on Conaree at 8 p.m.

Prior to that encounter, reigning Premier League champion S. L. Horsford’s St. Pauls United will face KFC Trinity/Challengers United at 6 p.m.
