BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CLIFFORD SMITH, better known as dancehall singer Mr. Vegas, has his name written in Grenada’s bad books as he was recently banned from performing on the island.
His February 27 performance in Grenada at Club Karma Night Club was cancelled by the NDC administration, according to a press release out of that country.
The release quoted the promoter of the event Steve Duncan as saying, “This one came as a shock. No specific reasons were given by the Ministry of Labour for the refusal of the work permits. Inside sources have hinted that the refusal may have been as a result of one particular song from the Artists which contains derogatory remarks about women that behave in a negative manner.”
Duncan further stated that over $30 000 had already been invested in promoting the event and no indication of a problem was hinted when he filed the application four weeks ago.
Mr.Vegas is known for many hits since he came to fame in 1998. These hits include ‘Yu Sure’, ‘Jack It Up’, ‘Latest News’, ‘Nike Air’ and ‘Heads High’.
In 2007, Vegas took the dancehall scene by storm when he came out with ‘Hot Wuk’, which featured a dance where females behaved in a highly sexual manner. This dance had caused the song to be banned at certain clubs in Jamaica.
