BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A delegation of investors and entrepreneurs from the New Jersey Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (NJTCC) has just concluded a business visit to the Federation with the intention to explore investment opportunities.
The business trip was prompted following the Business Forum held by St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency (SKIPA) in New York last October. According to the Resident Ambassador for the Republic of China on Taiwan to the Federation, His Excellency Rong Chuan Wu, the NJTCC decided in its board meeting of last December to send a contingent to St. Kitts and study the investment opportunities available.
The 20-member delegation, composed of NJTCC board members and their spouses, arrived on island last Thursday (Feb. 18) and executed assessments in the fields of commercial fishing, hospitality and hotel services, trading of all kinds, banking and finance, real estate investment and sustainable development.
At the end of the delegation’s visit, Third Secretary at the Taiwanese Embassy Roy Hsu told SKNVibes that the visit served as an eye-opening experience for the investors.
“The delegation of investors was quite impressed with the development here and they regarded this country as an attractive tourist and investor destination. They have informed that they will be forwarding the information gained here to their colleagues in the NJTCC because they found a lot of promising investment opportunities, especially in the real estate sector,” Hsu noted.
Accompanied by Ambassador Wu, the delegation made a courtesy call to Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas last Friday (Feb. 19) where he outlined the nation’s transition from dependence on sugar production to one that is service-oriented. Incentives for Foreign Direct Investment and the maintenance of a healthy investment climate were also discussed as PM Douglas acknowledged the assistance given by the Taiwanese government.
According to a press statement issued by the Taiwan Embassy, “President of the Delegation Tommy Huang and other members of the delegation praised the development of the Government of SKN and sincerely would like to explore investment projects during the trip.”
The Taiwanese Embassy thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, SKIPA, St. Kitts Tourism Authority and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for ensuring that the delegation had a successful and comfortable trip.
Following the success of this trip, according to Hsu, the delegation has made serious considerations for a return visit later this year.
