Road Town, Tortola - The BVI Post is announcing the release of a special collectable item, a framed stamp and summarised biography, to commemorate the birthday of the late Honourable Hamilton Lavity Stoutt.

According to the BVI Post’s Retail and Marketing Manager, Ms. Debra James, “The item is a great gift or collectable item for anyone interested in Mr. Stoutt’s legacy or the history of the Virgin Islands in general.”

Ms. James explained, “The reason for pursuing this initiative at present is because Mr. H.L. Stoutt’s birthday is on March 7 and after speaking with the Postmaster, Mr. Kevin Smith, we decided that this would be the best time to honour our very first Chief Minister of the Virgin Islands.”

“The H.L. Stoutt stamp is actually part of the 50th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Legislative Council issue, which was released in 2003. Although the stamp is not new, I am sure it would pique the interest of anyone who is interested in history,” Ms. James added.

The collectable item will be available from Tuesday, March 9. It will be sold at a price of $80.95, and will be available at the Post Office locations in Road Town, Tortola and the Valley, Virgin Gorda, as well as the BVI Post’s retail store at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.

For more information, please contact Ms. James at the BVI Post at telephone 468-3701 ext. 5000.

The BVI Post has been issuing stamps, which reflect the Virgin Islands’ natural environment and history for over 125 years. The BVI Post is included in the portfolio of the Ministry of Finance, and is responsible for postal communication.
