BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BASKETBALL CITY is the place to be this weekend, as the St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Association (SKABA) will be holding a number exciting exhibition matches and officially starting the LIME Junior Division.

Coming off of a successful partnership with telecommunications giant LIME in the 2009 season, SKABA will begin the action on Friday (Mar. 5) with an exhibition of its growth as newcomers to the league Windsor University will take on Nevis’ latest entry into SKABA, Craddock Road Rising Stars.

Immediately following that preview, fans shall witness a top-class regional clash when the four-peat reigning Junior Division champion, O.D. Brisbane Sandy Point Fruta Falcons, take on the British Virgin Islands’ junior champions, Another Level.

Falcons have dominated the Junior Division during their long reign as champion and will no doubt want to show a unified presence on Friday evening against Another Level, as they did have some minor struggles in the 2009 season, particularly against Junior Rams Hitters and Blue Devils.

Exhibition games will continue on Saturday (Mar. 6), when the newly promoted Ghaut Bucks, who utterly dominated the A Division upon their return to the league last season, take on Nevis’ Premier Division team, Joseph Parry’s Cotton Ground Rebels.

Then at 8 p.m. the British Virgin Islands national champions will return to the court to face the all-star St. Kitts Junior Select squad in what will no doubt be an exciting match-up that fits well with SKABA’s stated goal of exposing local players to more overseas competition.

The weekend of high stakes basketball will then wrap on Sunday evening (Mar. 7) with the official start of the LIME SKABA Junior Division.

In Sunday’s first game, Blue Devils will be looking to start their season right after reaching the playoffs in the past two years when they take on Bird Rock Uprisers at 6:30 p.m.

Fans will be receiving a special treat for the second game on Sunday in the form of a clash between the 2009 finalists Rams Hitters and Sandy Point Fruta Falcons. Sandy Point will have the advantage of playing a warm-up game on Friday, but Hitters fully demonstrated last season that they are capable of shutting down Falcons’ signature fast-paced offense when necessary.

The must-see start of the 2010 LIME SKABA season will carry an admission price of just EC $5 for adults, while youths 14 and under shall be admitted to the games absolutely free.
