BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FOUR young men are hoping to be the first Hip-Hop/Rap group from St. Kitts and Nevis to receive international fame.

The group goes by the name Black N White and its members believe they are the best undiscovered Rap group to emerge from St. Kitts. Divonne ‘Gat Man’ Amory, Chadena ‘Chabo’ Nisbett, Antonio ‘Tony’ Webbe and Tariq ‘Ice’ Finley are all friends residing in St. Peters and they have formed the group.

According to the group, their lyrics make them think they are the best. “When we listen to other rappers, we know they ain’t singing nothing or making sense while there are other rappers that are good; but I think we’re better and we want the public to know we’re open for performances,” said Webbe.

The group was formed two years ago while its members were attending high school.“We just use to be in class freestyling and we decided to write a track to see how it would come out,” said Webbe. The first track they produced was called ‘UTD’ or ‘Uptown Diss’ for a friendly lyrical battle between them and another Hip-Hop group called ‘UPT’ or ‘Uptown’.

Although the group has not yet performed at any live show, much time is being spent perfecting their craft in the studio and they feel that when they do perform on a show it would be well received by the audience.

They presently record their music at Toxic Productions. The name chosen for the group is an indication of what it hopes to accomplish, which is moving out of the darkness where they are unknown (Black) and into the light of success and stardom (White).

“We’re not about being a movement but a direction. The meaning of Black in our name represents where we came from and White where we want to be,” Webbe said.

Nisbett elaborated and said that Black denotes when they were unknown and were in the dark, and ‘White’ is like everyone seeing you and getting known. The members of the group said that they could rap about anything and they recently recorded love songs.

“We don’t have money and riches so we don’t rap about it…we ain’t rich but would like to be,” Webbe said.
Some of the songs that the group hopes to release include ‘Lady Love’, ‘Every time’, ‘Bottom of your time’, ‘Hustler Music’ and ‘Good Love’.

The group’s future plans include creating more music that would become hits, reaching as far as they could in the music industry. They also hope to release an album before the year ends. They can be contacted at 667-2847 or law_og@hotmail.com
