By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating the death of Denzil ‘Para’ Williams, who was today (Mar. 7) gunned down in an area called Points in Upper Monkey Hill, St. Peters.

According to the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, “At about 1:30 p.m. today, members of the Criminal Investigation Department, Anti-Gang Unit, Strike Force and officers from Stapleton Police station responded to a shooting incident in St. Peters.

“Investigations revealed that Denzil Williams, also known as Para, of Fort Thomas Road was shot multiple times to the body. Details are sketchy at this time but will be made available as investigations continue.”

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes found a large gathering of people at the entrance of a dirt trail leading to a building at the foot of a mountain where Williams was shot.
Residents in the area said that sometime after 1:00 p.m. they heard many shots being fired and on investigation they found the body of Williams lying next to some 45-gallon drums with multiple shots to the body, including his head.

This media house learned that Williams and another man were assisting an individual in casting a floor of the building at the foot of the mountain, when an undisclosed number of gunmen shot him to death. The area in which the building situates is partly surrounded by dense bushes and tall trees.

Unconfirmed reports state that the assailants made good their escape by going up the mountain.

Williams was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Mervyn Laws, who was summoned to the scene.

On December 4, 2009, Williams and Bernard Berry, who were charged with Collin ‘Izum’ Matthew’s murder and were in remand for some nine months, were freed after no case submissions were made by their lawyers. The lawyers, Chesley Hamilton and Hesketh Benjamin, cited that there was no evidence to tie the two men to the crime, and Her Ladyship Josephine Mellalieu-Webbe ruled that there was not enough evidence to commit them to stand trial at the High Court level.

Ten days after being freed, Berry was gunned down by a group of gunmen in Gillard Meadows, situated in St. Peters just behind the Air Traffic Control tower.

Williams’ death has taken the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year to eight; five on St. Kitts and three on Nevis.
