Police/Court Round-up

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PERSONS who were either convicted of or pleaded guilty to traffic violations during Thursday’s session of the Traffic Court (Mar. 4), were ordered to pay fines within a specific period or face imprisonment.

     

    Roy Nias of Challengers Village was convicted of driving without due care and attention and fined $600 to be paid within one day or serve one month at Her Majesty’s Prison. He was also convicted of the offences of “driving without a driver’s license” and “driving an unlicensed vehicle”. On the former offence, he was fined $400 to be paid within one day or serve one month and, on the latter, he was fined $300 to be paid in one day or serve one month in prison.

     

    Frigate Bay resident Awaid Khan avoided wasting the court’s time and pleaded guilty to the offence of “driving without insurance”. Consequently, he was handed a $600 fine to be paid within one week or serve one month behind bars.

     

    A $500 fine is to be paid by Camps resident Ajahta Dupont, who pleaded guilty to “driving without due care and attention”. The fine is expected to be paid within one week and failure to do so would result in a 14-day custodial sentence being imposed.

     

    After pleading guilty to “driving without due care and attention”, Kendall Blanchard of Ogee’s Village was ordered to pay $200 forthwith or spend one week at Her Majesty’s Prison.

     

    Molyneaux’s Curtis Matthew also pleaded guilty to “driving without due care and attention” and was fined $300 payable immediately. Should he fail to do so, he would be imprisoned for one month.

     

    Meanwhile, convictions for other categories of offence were recorded at other magisterial session throughout the country.

     

    According to a police press release, Javier Douglas of St. Paul’s appeared before Her Worship Yasmine Clarke and was convicted of “possession of cannabis”. His conviction resulted in the imposition of an $800 fine to be paid within three months or serve one month imprisonment.

     

    Everton Griffin also appeared before Her Worship Clarke on a charge of “permitting another to drive without a driver’s license”. He was convicted and fined $500, which is to be paid within one month or serve one month in jail.

     

    The release also informs that Darren Webster of Verchilds Village appeared before Her Worship Josephine Mallelieu-Webbe at the start of the month on a drug charge. Webster was convicted of “possession of cannabis” and fined $300, which is to be paid within three month. Failure to pay the sum would result in a one-month custodial sentence being imposed.

     

    ARRESTS
    Three persons, who were recently arrested by the police, are expected to appear before the court shortly to either answer their charges or have their matters heard.

     

    Sandy Point inhabitant Clexston Phillip was arrested and charged with a February 14, 2010 incidence of robbery, while Lime Kiln resident Lincoln Liburd was charged with “being found in an enclosed premises” and “carrying abroad an offensive weapon”. The offences, according to a police press release, were committed at the McKnight Day Care Centre on February 27, 2010.

     

    And Shamon Herbert, a Taylors Village resident, was arrested and charged with one count each of “possession of cannabis” and “possession of cannabis with intent to supply”. Police informed that the offence was committed on February 28, 2010.
