GIS Press Release

Road Town, Tortola, VI March 2010 – The Water and Sewerage Department is pleased to announce that the installation of the Minton Hill Reservoir is progressing on schedule. Hon. Julian Fraser, RA Minister for Communications & Works told the House of Assembly in January that it is the goal of his office to have this reservoir fully operational by mid-April 2010. The Water and Sewerage Department has confirmed that the work is 60% completed – well within the expected schedule.

The new 400,000 imperial gallons steel-fused reservoir is replacing an old 225,000 imperial gallon fiberglass reseervoir which had outgrown its shelf life. Upon completion, the new reservoir will bring a consistent water supply relief to consumers in Virgin Gorda, by providing adequate pressure to certain areas as well as additional water storage since the reservoir is now almost doubled in size. The new reservoir will supply potable water to residents in The Valley up to as far as Nail Bay.

Minister Fraser said he remains committed to providing the people of the Territory with an adequate supply of portable water and that the sister islands will never be left behind. The Water and Sewerage Department takes this opportunity to say thanks to our Virgin Gorda customers for their patience, cooperation and understanding. The Water and Sewerage Department’s mission is to provide a continuous supply of safe potable water to all Virgin Islands residents.
