Road Town, Tortola - The Archives and Records Management Unit of the Deputy Governor’s Office will host its second Old Pictures Exhibition in mid-April during Archives Records and Information Week.

Persons who did not participate in the first Old Pictures Exhibition in April 2007 will have the opportunity to participate in this year’s exhibition, which will run until April 31. Pictures could depict any Virgin Islands subject, scenery or activity. The only condition is that the entrants must be at least 25 years or older.

lChief Records Management Officer Mrs. Verna Penn Moll told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the exhibition is one way of partnering with the public in building up the archives unit’s picture collection for the reference and research use of present and future generations.

Mrs. Penn Moll added, “The first Old Pictures Exhibition, which was sponsored by the Archives Unit and Friends of the Archives in April 2007, was designed to emphasise the value of old pictures as artefacts of history, worthy of preservation and to involve the public with assisting to build up the archives’ collection.”

Persons are encouraged to submit pictures which will be registered, kept secure and returned to their owners after the exhibition.

For further information, telephone the Archives and Records Management Unit at 468-3701 ext. 2362 or 3044, 2365.

The Archives and Records Management Programme was established in April, 2004 in the Deputy Governor’s Office. Its objective is to encourage proper records creation, good records keeping and management in Government, and to develop a comprehensive archives and records management programme.
