Lil Wayne begins jail sentence

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FAMOUS US rapper Lil Wayne, known for hits such as ‘Lollipop’, ‘Mrs. Officer’ and ‘Money On My Mind’, began serving his one-year jail sentence on Monday (Mar. 8).

He was arrested in July 2007 and pleaded guilty in October the same year to possession of a weapon which was found on his tour bus.

The 27-year-old rapper is spending his year at Rikers Island Jail Complex, where he would be held apart from the general population of inmates because of his fame. He could be released in about eight months with good behaviour.

Born Dwayne Carter, Lil Wayne released a new album titled ‘Rebirth’ just last month. His 2008 album, ‘Tha Carter III’, was the best selling album of 2008 and won a Grammy for Best Rap Album.
