CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - WITH a blistering pace in the Senior Boys 1500m, Kashka Forbes first breasted the tape to break the Charlestown Secondary School’s 36-year-old record set by Andy Liburd.
Not only did Forbes break Liburd’s record, but also the School’s Senior Boys 800m record set by Timothy Caines in 1996.
In 1974, Liburd set the record in a time of 4:22:23 and Forbes shaved 0:01:40 off of it, while taking 0:03:27 off of Caines’ 2:04:83.
The two historic events took place on Wednesday (Mar. 10) when Charlestown Secondary School held its annual Sports Meet under the distinguished patronage of Timothy Caines at the Elequemedo Willett Park.
Forbes, who represented Red House and was definitely the crowd’s favourite, told this media house how he felt as the new 1500m record holder.
“I am very happy. I was frightened at first, but after the race started and the crowd kept chanting my name, my momentum built and I saw myself setting the new record; one which I hope to be there for a number of years.”
Two records were also set by Reneka Daniel of Green House in the Junior Girls 400m and 200m.
In addition to an exciting teachers’ race, the capacity crowd was treated to high-quality performances by Roylston Queeley, Romesha Daniel, Javid Pemberton, Kerisha Powell, Tyler Martin, Lawvinton Forbes, Britney Morton, Donella Ward, Trevon Ting, who are all expected to perform similarly in two weeks time at the Inter-High School Meet in St. Kitts.
The day however ended with Blue House taking the crown with 210 points while Green House with 209 occupied the First Runner-up position, Red House taking the Second Runner-up position with 151, and Gold House bringing up the rear with 130 points.
There had however seemed to be some discrepancy, as this media later learnt from the teachers of Green House that they would request a recount because of the close margin-win by Blue House.
