Saints International to host FashionFace of the Caribbean

    KINGSTON, Jamaica – MORE than 60 contestants are expected to vie for the prestigious title of FashionFace of the Caribbean, a competition organised by Jamaican-based model agency Saints International.

     

    The event will be held on Saturday, March 13 at the Courtleigh Auditorium at 9:00 p.m. Saint International CEO Deiwght Peters told The Jamaica Gleaner that contestants from Tobago, Martinique and Guadeloupe were also participating.

     

    Peters also said that contestants were hand-picked by him to ensure the competition maintains the high standard it has become known for, hence the huge interest from the world's best agents.

     

    The agency will also use the event as a celebration for the major successes of its models in Paris in the recently concluded Paris Fashionweek, The Gleaner stated.

     

    Models Shena Moulton (FashionFace 2008) and Sosheba Griffith (FashionFace 2005) were said to have conquered the runways, with the latter walking exclusively for legendary French house Givenchy.

     

    She was selected personally by designer Ricardo Tisci. Tisci has been credited with making many new models superstars by his endorsement. Moulton walked for a stunning 10 designers in Paris. Peters stated that he was thrilled to have his models in Paris.
    "Supermodels are made in Paris or Milan and we are very heartened that two Saint models set a new Caribbean standard in the fashion capital," he said.

     

    The return of the much-acclaimed Avant Garde Designer of the Year, after a two-year break, will also take place.
    The Avant Garde competition was created as a means to encourage creativity and reward talent in the design field. The contest has been the breaking ground for many celebrated designers, such as Dexter Pottinger, Carlton Brown, Yola Gray and REVE - all former winners.

     

    This year the event is sponsored by LIME. Ten young talents will create a theme around the lifestyle elements for LIME and compete for $100 000 cash prize, courtesy of the telecommunications company.

     

    Tomorrow night's show will feature performances by D'Angel and Ce'Cile. Saints International also hosts one of the major events in the Caribbean called Style Week Jamaica, which has evolved over the past four years into the Caribbean’s most prestigious fashion event.

     

    By virtue of its unparalleled commitment to the development of the local fashion industry and its players-fashion and accessories designers, photographers, hairstylists, fashion stylists, it is considered as the most important fashion platform for new and established creative talent.

     

    Annually, the event is patronised by 25 000 passionate fashionistas. The three signature events are all in their own league - The innovative International Men’s Collection, the International Mecca Of Style to the world acclaimed FASHIONBLOCK.
