BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - The Sandy Point-based, Saving our Sons Home for Boys recently received a donation of household appliances compliments the Rotary Club of Liamuiga.
The washing machine and microwave were handed over by President of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga, Laverne Caines, to the Boys’ Home Director, Pastor Clive Saunders.
“This is in proud fulfillment of a promise we made to your institution at the start of the current Rotary year,” said the Club’s President. “We have become very impressed with the work that your institution has been doing with very little public assistance and we believe that you deserve all the help and encouragement you can get. Please accept these appliances with our very best wishes for the tremendous work that you and your staff are doing,” she said.
Mrs Caines disclosed that the funds to purchase the appliances were derived from the Club’s Old Year’s Ball and used the occasion to again thank the public for its support of that function. “Rotary raises money to fund its community activities through fund raising activities and the public deserves to know how we use those funds,” she concluded.
Pastor Saunders who was accompanied at the presentation ceremony by one of the young men who resides at the home, lauded the Rotary Club of Liamuiga for keeping its promise to the Boys’ Home. “We currently have a total of eight boys in our institution and it takes a lot of resources to keep the home running,” he intimated. “We truly appreciate assistance from community-minded organisations like Rotary, and call upon other organisations and corporations to provide assistance where they can,” the Pastor implored.
Several months ago the Club also made a commitment to assist the boys of the home interested in Agricultural pursuits through assistance from the Taiwanese Farms. The offer was made by Rotarian Rong-Chaun Wu, who is also a member of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga. Pastor Saunders was reminded that this commitment still stands.
President Elect Eustace Warner and Sergeant-At-Arms Valentine Hodge witnessed the presentation which took place at Warner’s One Stop.
