Drug charges against Woman Police Officer withdrawn; co-accused convicted

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE drug-related charges that were slapped on Woman Police Officer Monica Williams have been withdrawn with her co-accused, Jeneve Mills, taking responsibility for the infraction.

Speaking with Commissioner of Police (COP) Austin Williams, SKNVibes gleaned that the case was heard at the District “A” Magistrate Court on Tuesday last (Mar. 9) before Her Worship Josephine Mallelieu Webbe.

The COP informed that, according to what he had gathered, Mills, who resides at Prickley Pear Alley, was convicted of “possession of cannabis” and fined $2 000 to be paid within two weeks or serve one month imprisonment. Commissioner Williams also explained that should the sum be paid within the prescribed period, no conviction against Mills would be recorded.

Asked about the result of the Officer Williams’ case, the COP indicated that he was not sure of the outcome but believes that the charges against her were withdrawn.

A police communiqué explained the circumstances, which led to Williams’ and Mills’ arrest, as occurring on or before Friday, February 12, 2010.

“On Friday 19th February 2010 police formally arrested and charged Jeneve Mills of Prickley Pear Alley and a Woman Police Officer Monica Williams of St. Pauls both on warrants in the first instance for possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

“These charges came as a result of a search warrant that was executed by police on the premises of Jeneve Mills at Prickley Pear Alley on the early morning of Friday 12th February 2010. Investigations are ongoing.”

The release further explained that the duo appeared before the Basseterre Magistrate Court and was granted bail to the tune of $5 000 each, to appear before the court at a later date.

This media house was reliably informed that, during the hearing, Mills pleaded guilty to the possession charge but the trafficking charge was withdrawn.

SKNVibes understands that Officer Williams was suspended pending determination of the criminal charge. However, well-placed sources indicated that she remains on suspension pending the outcome of internal investigations.
