-- Governor General, His Excellency Sir Cuthbert Sebastian and Deputy Governor General for Nevis, His Honour Mr Eustace John, were among guests at a reception hosted for the newly appointed American Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados, Her Excellency Mrs Mary Kramer, at the Botanical Garden of Nevis on Friday evening.

The reception which was chaired by the Honourable Premier of Nevis, Mr Vance Amory, and attended by a cross-section of Americans living on Nevis and Nevisians, was jointly hosted by the Barbados-based Embassy of the United States to the Eastern Caribbean, the Botanical Gardens of Nevis, US Warden Karen Peterson and Coldwell Bankers-St. Kitts/Nevis Realty.

In his welcome remarks, Premier Amory said that he was pleased to have the Ambassador visiting Nevis, and reported that earlier that morning (Friday) that the Ambassador had met the Nevis Island Administration Cabinet where they shared and exchanged ideas on issues which are of mutual interest to the two countries.

Ambassador Kramer who said that she was honoured to have the leaders of the Federation present at the reception delighted the gathering when she said: “It is a fabulous opportunity for me to be able to represent my country here in the Eastern Caribbean and Barbados and may I say if it isn’t the top post in the whole world, it has to be in the top five.”

She introduced her husband of forty-five years, Mr Kay Kramer, three Peace Corps volunteers who had been sworn in on Thursday and posted to Nevis, five North American travel writers, four from the US and one from Canada, who were at that time visiting Nevis on assignment and Mrs Joan Robinson of the Nevis Historical Conservation Society, who began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer and has never left the Caribbean.

Ambassador Kramer thanked, individually, those who arranged for the reception and said: “The greatest hospitality that we have received here is that we are all gathered here sharing tonight; it is just a gift and I know that it bodes well for building wonderful working relationships over the next months and years, as we come together. I look forward to working with you and being friends with all of you as well.”
