BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN an effort to get the opinions and views on certain events, incidents and issues from a wide cross section of the St. Kitts-Nevis society, as well as other visitors to the web site, SKNVibes has embarked on a weekly column called “What if?”
Currently, there is an immigration situation existing on Nevis in which a number of immigrants were ‘rounded-up’ last Friday (Mar. 12) and taken to the Charlestown Police Station, where they had to provide proof of their legal presence on the island.
It was revealed that among them were immigrants who have work permits but they were not in their possession at the time. These individuals had to suffer the indignity of being hustled into police vehicles like common criminals and placed in holding areas until proof of their legal status on the island arrived.
Additionally, a number of immigrants were given letters of dismissal from their jobs and told that they would have to leave the island because their work permits would not be renewed, neither would they be granted temporary nor annual residence while in search of employment.
SKNVibes intends to commence the (What if?) column from this week. Therefore, from this backdrop, our question is…”What if all nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis residing and working in foreign countries are asked to leave?
We are looking forward to your constructive opinions and views.
