LIME plants kindness at JNF Hospital

LIME employees take time off to beautify the JNF Hospital entrance

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SMALL acts of kindness can go a long way, and today (Mar. 17) telecommunications giant LIME intends to show just that in all 13 Caribbean countries it operates in.

Today marks the inaugural observation of LIME Kindness Day, an annual occasion for employees to participate in initiatives designed to enhance the communities where they live and work. While other regional branches of the company have taken the day off to donate meals to the underprivileged or to refurbish charity homes, LIME (St. Kitts and Nevis) took the morning off to place decorative plants at the entrance of the JN France General Hospital.

Thanks to LIME the entrance to the hospital is brightened with raspberry bougainvilleas, green island ficus,  desert roses, crown of thorns and Chinese junipers. Within a matter of weeks, the entrance is expected to be transformed into an inviting stream of colour.

Employees at all levels of the company got a change in environment and tried their hands with garden tools and plants, getting messy while having fun spreading kindness.

LIME’s Corporate Communications Manager Laverne Caines disclosed that about EC$ 8000 was spent on the beatification project, adding that it is a continuation of the company’s efforts to enhance the communities it serves.

“We are not just giving a cheque and walking away; what is different today is that we are actually doing the hands-on work. So, we are serving meals, painting, refurbishing buildings [across the region] and LIME staff members are physically involved,” Caines told in SKNVibes.

She explained that the project is not a standalone effort and fits well in the overall commitments of the company. The company has been serving the various communities within the islands across the region for a long time and, according to Caines, it must therefore continue to be “community-minded and actively involved” in the development of the islands of the region.

“This is not going to be the end of it. We made a commitment when we were rebranded to LIME to make our space a better place and if we beautify now…we are in fact making small steps towards making our islands a better place,” the LIME top official added.

Newly-elected Minister of Health, Social Services and Community Development Hon. Marcella Liburd expressed her gratitude to LIME for demonstrating its kindness and corporate generosity to the hospital. She assured that the beautification work started by LIME will be continued and maintained in order to enhance the entrance of that institution, describing the gesture as a start of a healthy partnership with the private sector.

“I see this as a wonderful start. As a new minister, I’m really delighted that LIME has taken to partner with us in this way. I would really like to use this opportunity to ask other business places out there to partner with us as we try and achieve our vision as a fit and healthy nation.”

The telecoms company is expected to plan a similar event next year, as the LIME Kindness Day brings more smiles to the people the business serves.
