Althea Scatliffe and Joyce Samuels capture sports championship

    Road Town, Tortola - Althea Scatliffe (Division A) and Joyce Samuels (Division B) Primary Schools are the champions in their respective divisions for this year’s Inter-Primary School Sports which was held last week during Education Week.

     

    Althea Scatliffe captured the Division A championship with a total of 456 points. In that same category St. Georges Primary placed second with 273 points and Ebenezer Thomas Primary placed third with 271 points. The other participating primary schools in this division included Willard Wheatley, Francis Lettsome, Enis Adams, Bregado Flax Education Centre and Cedar International.

     

    The victrix for Division A is Arianna Hayde of Althea Scatliffe Primary and the victor is Chaz Fahie of St. George’s Primary. Students Tiana Pusey (St. George’s Primary) and Keon Penn (Enis Adams Primary) were the champions in the under nine division while Arriana Hayde (Althea Scatliffe) and Chaz Fahie (St. George’s Primary) were champions in the under 11 division. The champions in the under 13 division are Kardeisha Auguiste (Ebenezer Thomas Primary); Dominuque Wilkson (Bregado Flax Primary) and in the under 15 division Jassnique Frederick (Bregado Flax Primary) and Akeem Bradshaw (Francis Lettsome Primary).

     

    Additionally, in the Division B championships, Leonora Delville Primary captured second place with 337 points and Isabella Morris Primary was third with 335 points. The other participating primary schools were Alexandrina Maduro, Ivan Dawson, Agape Total Life Academy, Claudia Creque Educational Centre and Jost Van Dyke.

     

    The victrix for this division is Z’Niah Corea of Isabella Morris and the victor is Amaparo Victor of Joyce Samuels. The champions in the individual divisions are Tashira Edward (Ivan Dawson Primary) and Rayondre Mercer (Leonora Delville Primary) in the under nine. In the under 11 division, the champions are Z’Niah Corea and Daunte Scatliffe (Ivan Dawson Primary); while the champions for the under 13 are Kelsha Fortune (Leonora Delville Primary) and Reynaldo Rios (Isabella Morris Primary). Students Ashley Penn (Isabella Morris Primary) and Amaparo Victor won the under 15 division.

     

    At the opening ceremony, which was held at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds, Minister of Education and Culture Honourable Andrew Fahie encouraged good sportsmanship amongst schools and thanked the principals and teachers for their commitment and support despite the many challenges with which they may be faced daily.

     

    This year’s Education Week was held under the theme “Improving Education Through Training”. The mission of the Department of Education is to equip learners of all ages with the skills, knowledge and attitude necessary to become productive citizens in a rapidly changing society.
