Parliamentary Representative for the St Pauls Constituency in Nevis Hon Michael Perkins.
CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (April 18, 2006) -- Parliamentary Representative of the St Pauls Constituency Hon Michael Perkins, told his constituents at a recent meeting that he had stuck to the vision he had articulated four and a half years ago, when he won his election bid and had delivered on his promises.
Mr Perkins who serves as Minister responsible for Physical Planning Infrastructural Development, Natural Resources and the Environment, Communications and Works, Public Utilities and Posts in the Nevis Island Administration, made the comment while delivering a progress report to his constituents at the new Ramsbury playing field.

In 2001 I indicated 10 major things I had in mind that I wanted to see happen in this Constituency and 4 ½ years later I am reporting on the status of each of those 10 things:

"The construction of Marion Avenue (completed); to provide a playfield in Ramsbury (completed); to resurface Craddock Road (completed); to resurface Government Road (completed); to improve Craddock Road Hard Court Facility (completed/ongoing); to improve drainage in Ramsbury (parts are completed parts are ongoing); to improve road network and drainage situation in Hamilton (ongoing); to expand Charlestown Secondary School (ongoing) and the construction of an auditorium of the Charlestown Primary School (pending)," he said.

According to Mr Perkins, work did not commence on the auditorium due to inadequate space for extension then. He explained that the Government had since acquired 3 ½ acres of lands in the area, some of which would be used for the construction of the auditorium during the summer vacation. Funds for the project had been budgeted for in the 2006 Estimates.

Notwithstanding, he said in the interim, the NIA has provided additional classroom space, a computer lab and a library which he disclosed would be air conditioned in time for the resumption of school next week. Mr Perkins said the air conditioned library was a personal reward to the school, having won the top position at the recent Inter Primary Athletics Championships two years in a row.

In addition, Mr Perkins asked the constituents to reflect on the improvements and transformations made throughout Charlestown since he was elected, including the construction of sidewalks, the creation of a one-way traffic system and the construction of the Hamilton by pass road.

Those are some of the additional things and your representative was able to provide to make life better for one and all. In the very near future, some of the other basic things that you shall see happening in and around you, would include the construction of a road linking Government Road to Stoney Grove which would end near the Cultural Complex.
It is my intension that this road would be started very shortly and would be completed in time for the Culturama season. I want you to think of the importance of that road. Think of what is happening in and around Charlestown with respect to the increase in traffic between 2000-2001 and now there are a couple more thousand vehicles on these roads of ours, we have to think ahead. We have to provide that network of road that would help to alleviate some of the problems that we face with respect to the traffic situation on the island.

"At Hamilton three bridges are under construction and very shortly we intend to start the construction of another link road that would link Government Road to the heart of Charlestown. In Upper Stoney Grove we intend to commence construction of two roads " one leading from the area of Pennyless heading eastward back to the Island Main Road and one further up in the area where Mr Blake lives," he said.

Other plans he said include the construction of some affordable homes in Ramsbury.

During the meeting Mr Perkins received much commendation from his constituents, for his accomplishments and representation.
