CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, March 17th 2010 - Plans for the staging of the 2010 Agriculture Open Day here on Nevis are moving into high gear and organisers are once again promising members of the public an activity of a very high standard.
The event is scheduled for Thursday 25 and Friday 26 March at the Villa in Charlestown, with an official opening planned for 9.30 on Thursday.
The Agricultural showcase will again highlight the various advances in technology available to the farming community. It will also provide an avenue for persons involved in the industry to advertise and sell their products.
The 16th edition of the Agriculture Open Day will be held under the theme “Promoting Food Security Amidst Financial Challenges”.
Manager at the Newcastle Pottery, Miss Almena Cornelius has been chosen as the patron for this year’s Open Day.
The extended dry spell experienced at the beginning of this year is not expected to affect the quantity and quality of exhibits at the Open Day.
The Open Day will again feature an entertainment package to excite patrons. There will be energetic performances from primary school groups on both days. The Friday afternoon bartender’s competition is expected to be back this year and confirmation has already been secured from four establishments. A domino competition will also be held on Friday. Music for both days will be provided by Recklife and the Ultimate Band will bring the curtains down on the event on Friday afternoon.
Members of the general public are being encouraged to support the efforts of farmers, the Department of Agriculture as well as its allied agencies.
