BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONE man is in police custody assisting the lawmen with their investigation into the Thursday morning (Mar.  18) shooting-death of Karim ‘Sleepy’ Browne.

According to Joseph Liburd, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with responsibility for Crime, a man was held on Thursday shortly after Browne was shot and he is currently assisting members of the Criminal Investigation Department with investigation into the incident.

ACP Liburd also informed this media house that the man was caught with an undisclosed quantity of cannabis sativa in his possession and was subsequently charged for the offence.

Browne, formally of McKnight but who was residing in Bath Village, Nevis, died after undergoing emergency surgery at the Alexandra Hospital at approximately 1:02 p.m. on the day he was shot execution-style.

SKNVibes learned that Browne and his father, Abdue Challenger, were painting a building in the vicinity of Gingerland Secondary School when the incident occurred.

It was also learnt that shortly after 11:00 a.m. while Challenger was working within the building, Browne was painting the gate when a masked man dressed in black with a gun in his hand approached and fired two shots at him. And unconfirmed reports indicate that one of the bullets struck him in the eye, entered his head and then lodged itself in his neck.

Browne’s death has taken the number of homicides committed in the twin-island Federation to nine; five on St. Kitts and four on Nevis.
