Three St. Kitts and Nevis parliamentarians celebrate 21 years each in National Assembly

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MARCH 22ND 2010 (CUOPM) – Three members of the St. Kitts and Nevis National Assembly are each celebrating 21 years as elected representatives.

     

    It was on March 21st 1989 that the Hon. Sam T. Condor, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party candidate for St. Christopher # 3 (West Basseterre); Hon. Denzil L. Douglas, St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party candidate for St. Christopher #6 (Newton Ground to Harris’) and Hon. Vance W. Amory, Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) candidate for Nevis 10 were elected for the first time to represent their respective constituencies.

     

    Messrs. Condor, Douglas and Amory were sworn in on March 10th 2010 for a sixth consecutive term when a new National Assembly was opened following the January 25th general election.

     

    Following the 1989 general election, all three were re-elected in successive elections on 29th November 1993; 3rd July 1995; 6th March 2000; 25th October 2004 and January 25th 2010.

     

    Dr. Douglas in May 1989, was elected National Political Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), then in opposition to the ruling People’s Action Movement (PAM) and has been re-elected each year at the Labour Party’s  annual conference.

     

    In the 1995 general elections, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party formed the government with Dr. Douglas being appointed as Prime Minister and Mr. Condor was Deputy Prime Minister. 15 of the 21 years have been in Government and six in opposition, while Mr. Amory has been sitting on the opposition benches for 21 years.
