ROADTOWN, Tortola – DESPITE not placing in the top five at the Miss Caribbean World Pageant, St. Kitts-Nevis representative Fatisha Imo did herself and the Federation proud by winning the Best Talent award.

The pageant was held last evening (Mar. 27) at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Tortola and Imo’s winning piece was entitled “Are you listening”, which depicted some of the things that affect the world including drugs and gangs.

According to the BVI Platinum news website, Miss Dominica Marcia Baptiste is this year’s Miss Caribbean World capturing the crown and all its glory and not any of the judged segments.

In fact, First Runner-up Miss Barbados Dannyele Teneel Leslie, Second Runner-up Miss Trinidad & Tobago Jeuel-Marie Green-Thompson, Third Runner-up Miss USA Meagan Small and Fourth Runner-up Miss USVI Tamika Nicole Narissa Joseph also did not win any of the judged segments.

Best Evening Wear and Best Costume were awarded to Miss BVI Josefina Nunez, while Miss St. Lucia Glenda Kimberlyn Abbott won Best Swimwear and Miss Barbados was adjudged Miss Intellect.

The Miss Congeniality title went to Trinidad & Tobago's Jeuel-Marie Green-Thompson and Most Photogenic to Miss Anguilla Sangrena Harris.
There was some degree of disappointment as patrons expressed their displeasure over the results and questioned why winners of the judged segments did not place as against the winner and her Runners-up.

One commenter to the Platinum website, Miss Understood, stated: “Can someone tell me how Katy got Best Evening wear and Best Costume but still she ain't place?????? Who was the judges for this show?????? I think that does not make no sense to me...How was the points given for the segments???? First show I see that contestants that didn't receive anything placed....”

Forgettable said: “Congrats to the winner but it’s weird that she didn't win any segments and still came 1st. I'm really surprised that Miss USA and Miss USVI won as I even forgot who they ever were...I thought Miss Anguilla did a great job and I loved her costume as well as Miss St. Kitts and her talent...I thought both should have placed.

However, a commenter by the name of Pageant Participant said that pageant winners not winning a segment was nothing new.
“There are many shows like that now, where non award win or place and the award winners don’t.

It’s possible to think it’s fishy but it can happen. Maybe Miss Dominica was very high in the other segments and may have dropped in dress but had enough points from the other segments to stay upfront because she was consistent. Remember wasn’t it like 19 girls or so? So perhaps those who won segments were not consistent in every segment so their places fluctuated (less points as one position goes down) in each category causing them not to do well although they won segments.”

The new queen was crowned by the outgoing Miss Caribbean World, Marah Walters, who is also from Dominica.
