Road Town, Tortola - The Governor is pleased to announce the appointment of the new Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Morris.

This appointment has been made on the advice of the Police Service Commission and after consultation with the National Security Council as required by the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007. Mr. Morris is due to arrive in the Territory in early June 2010 for a three year contract. He is currently serving as Assistant Chief Constable in the South Wales Police force in the United Kingdom (UK).

The Deputy Commissioner’s role will be to support the Commissioner of Police in achieving the force’s strategic plan and the delivery of ongoing operational priorities. The three year contract period will enable the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force to benefit from Mr. Morris’ extensive experience of policing in the UK, and will further ensure that the senior officers in the force will benefit from his mentorship thereby preparing the best officers to take up the challenging post in the future.

The Governor stated, “I am very pleased with the appointment. I would like to congratulate Mr. Morris on his success in being selected for this key position. I am confident that he will bring the necessary leadership qualities and experience to this challenging role so that the force and the security of the BVI will truly benefit. I would like to thank all those, and in particular the Police Service Commission, for their contribution and commitment to this lengthy recruitment process.”
