Road Town, Tortola - His Excellency Governor David Pearey, after consultation with the Public Service Commission, has approved the acting appointment of Mrs. Marsha Smith to the post of Chief Training Officer.
Mrs. Smith who has been acting in the position since January 1, holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Human Resource Administration from Temple University in the United States and a Master of Arts degree with distinction in Human Resource Development and Consulting from the Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. Mrs. Smith is also a Certified Training Manager/Director, a distinction received from Langevin Learning Services.
Mrs. Smith has 20 years experience in the public and private sectors in both the British and United States Virgin Islands. She joined the public service in 1997 as a Clerical Officer in the Department of Education and Culture and was later appointed to the post of Senior Executive Officer at the Financial Services Department in November, 1998. Mrs. Smith also served as Administrative Cadet in the Training Division from October, 2004 and was subsequently appointed as Assistant Human Resources Manager and Senior Administrative Officer in the same division on April 1, 2005 and November 5, 2007, respectively.
The Chief Training Officer is responsible for managing, directing and coordinating learning and development for the entire public service, including training consultation, scholarship administration, development and delivery of training programmes, training needs analysis, and evaluation of training programmes.
