Rep You Own concert to be made annual event

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NATIONALS are urged to continue supporting their homegrown artiste as Mykal Somer hosted  a ‘Rep Your Own’ concert on Saturday (Mar. 27), which he hopes to make an annual event.

Somer, originally from Half Way Tree but resides in Atlanta, said that the event was about bringing local artistes together to shine on their own event.

He told SKNVibes in an interview following the event that the turnout of attendees could have been better and that the people should not desist from supporting their own artistes.

“The concert was organised to help promote and expose local artistes,” he said. “It is time Kittitians start to represent themselves and can do so on an event created just for them.”

The ‘Rep Your Own’ concert was held at the Potential Bar and featured Identity Modeling Agency, Fire Ball, Ashkenaz, Dagah, C-Money, Jah Fire and Infamus.
Music was provided by Sister Sensia and DJ Rubbers as well as the Grand Masters and Nu Vybes Bands, which brought the curtains down on the event.

Somer also took to the stage singing ‘Keep on Sharing’, ‘Wake the town’, ‘Got Your Message’ and a new single ‘Land of Beauty’.
The artiste said that he is working on a new album and revealed that it has been six years since he released ‘Element of Surprise’, which was his first album.

However, during that time he was still releasing singles and music videos. “Never forgot about my music,” he said. “I began a 9 to 5 job and I cut the music off for a bit, plus I also moved during that time.”

He has not revealed the name of his second album but said it would be of a more roots nature with a live instrumental recording.
He said that musicians from the Virgin Islands are also featured on the album which would feature more of his personal experiences and journey.

The 33-year-old singer said he is thankful for what he has accomplished so far with his music. “I have been blessed and I received a lot of love from the people during my career, and that motivates me and keeps me driven. I just have to keep moving,” he said.

Somer extended special thanks to everyone who attended the ‘Rep You Own’ concert, the sponsors and performers.
He is encouraging everyone to attend next year and help make it a grand event.
