BlackBerry users beware…

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BLACKBERRY (BB) phones were once mainly used by business personnel to accommodate their business purposes. But today, the Blackberry has become one of the most popular phones on the market

With its ever popular BB Messenger, Blackberry users worldwide can now connect with each other via this service on their phones which also allows them to display photos that can be stolen by persons on their contact list.

Even though this phone is more on the expensive side, in today’s society almost everyone wants or owns a Blackberry as it has grown more and more popular because of its services.

As technology continues to grow so does evil intentions and criminal minds. Therefore, Blackberry users are being cautioned to be very careful with the pictures they display on their phones, as people can easily steal picture and circulate them on the internet and portray a bad imagine of you.

It goes further than just someone stealing ones pictures. People are also cautioned to be careful of the type of photos they keep in their phones, as they can be stolen and end up in the wrong hands.

A number of persons have lately been victims to this phenomenon, not only in St. Kitts but also in many other countries around the world. Recently, the Jamaica Star carried a story in which police warned owners of Blackberry phones to be very careful when using them in public since the device is one of the preferred instruments for thieves.

The media house also said that the Head of the Police Department stated that people with BlackBerry phones are being targeted. "The BlackBerry device has always been the choice among robbers because they are a high-profile phone and they are a quick market for sellers."

SKNVibes contacted the local authorities and spoke with Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Joseph Richardson, who said they have had reports of explicit photos being circulated on the internet but he is not certain if any of them came from the use of Blackberries.

Richardson said he could remember a case when two people were charged for taking nude photos with a minor and circulating them. He also said that he often hears about these things on the streets but he is unaware of any official report to date.

The ACP concluded by warning Blackberry users and other persons that circulating such photos is an offence. He is also urging people to reframe from taking or having someone take nude or explicit photos of them, because it could be devastating in the long run.

Some say ‘BB to de world’ and indeed it is a great device, but misusing it can also crush your world.
