Victoria Wheatley appointed manager, Adina Donovan Home

    Road Town, Tortola - His Excellency the Governor, after consultation with the Public Service Commission, has approved the appointment of Mrs. Victoria Wheatley to the post of Manager, Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly.

     

    Mrs. Wheatley, whose appointment became effective February 15, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Master’s degree in Counselling from Bowie State University. She is currently pursuing an advanced degree in International Health Care Administration at the University of Maryland.

     

    Her professional experience includes Clinical Research Coordinator and Health Education Trainer at the Axel Research & Education Centre in Severna Park, Maryland from 2005-2009; Staff Nurse on the Telemetry Unit, University of Maryland Medical Systems in 2006; Helicopter Evacuation Nurse, Helicopters International from 2000-2006 and At large Health Reporter, Virgin Islands Television, 1999-2005.

     

    Mrs. Wheatley also served as Health Trainer, BVI Government 1996-1998; Administrator of Community Nursing Care, Home Health Care Center in Annapolis, Maryland 1980-1990; School Infirmary Nurse, Bowie State College 1977-1980 and Research Nurse, Supervisor of the Research Unit, Crownsville State Hospital Crownsville, Maryland from 1974-1977.

     

    Mrs. Wheatley joined the Virgin Islands Public Service on September 9, 1996 and was appointed as Nursing Tutor in the Department of Health, a position which she held until her resignation on January 21, 1998.

     

    As Manager of the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly Mrs. Wheatley is responsible for overseeing the general supervision of all staff, contributing to the development of policies, regulations and standards which govern the operation of nursing homes; monitoring the work of staff; making recommendations regarding all matters relating to recruitment, selection, appointments and promotions of staff. Her responsibilities also include developing and maintaining systems to support health, safety and the welfare of the staff and residents; collaborating with other health professionals, agencies, services and organisations in the provision of care and assistance for residents and preparing and submitting quarterly and annual reports regarding the management of the home.
