BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – LADIES, there are times when we pour our hearts out to men hoping they would reciprocate or even be ready to make a commitment, but many of them do not. In fact, even after a year of courtship you might be thinking he is the one but he still shows signs of non-commitment.
You are ready to say, “I love you”, and he still says, “I like you a lot”. But even when they say the things you want to hear, how do you really know when a man loves you? What are the signs? What are the signals? What would tell us he really cares?
How would a woman know when a man is in love with her?
SKNVibes got it straight from several Caribbean men who seemed to know exactly how a man would behave when he is in love.
Here is what they had to say:
Deron Blaize of Tortola said a woman would know when a man is in love with her as he would keep paying close attention to her.
“He may call or text her often, making sure she’s all right. And so, if she isn’t okay he gonna want to help her feel better or do other things more than willing.
“He might ask you if you want him to help you with anything before you ask him for help, and get upset when you don’t ask him to do stuff that you need done. Another sign is he will have manners around you and respects you. However, men like when a woman wants him; that will make him feel important to her…same way a woman likes to feel important. And I think men are more straight forward with their feelings than women,” he said.
A Jamaican, who goes by the codename ‘Mr. 74’, said there are many ways in which a woman could tell if a man loves her.
“If he introduces her to his friends…many women have so called boyfriends and have never met his friends or his family. A sure sign of love and acceptance is that label. When she meets his friends or colleagues or family and he says, ‘Hey guys, this is my beautiful girlfriend.’ Know what I mean?
“Until that happens, you all are just hanging out and not serious,” Mr. 74 continued. “That is one of the ways I think a woman knows when a man is serious about his love for her. People use the word love so loosely nowadays…actions speak louder in my opinion. Another one is if he compromises and takes interest in things she wants to do also, instead of hanging with the boys all the time. His boys don’t have any woman but he does and he needs to dedicate time to her needs (not only sexual needs but other needs as well) and show her affection now and then. Women love that and they give back that same affection in double doses.”
A Trinidadian Software and Technology Consultant that goes by the name GM said that if a man is willing to wait to have sex with a woman upon her wishes, it indicates that he loves her.
“And also when she knows where he is and what he is doing 97 percent of the time,” GM added.
Owner of the Dominica-based Andrews Media Corporation, 27-year-old Merrick Andrews, listed several signs that would indicate a man is in love with a woman.
He said, “You would know when he wants or is eager (out of his initiative) to meet your parents, friends and other close family members, or he does not object or happily agrees to meet them.
“When he says he loves you without you telling him or, more so, if he tells you he loves you before any sexual contact in the relationship. When he never seems to get tired of you and always want to be close to you in a non-possessive way, giving you more attention than his close buddies.
“He treats you like a queen. Pampers you, romances you. He shows you off to his friends or always talks about you to his family, or he wants you to meet his family. He is willing to wait on you if you tell him no sex until you're ready,” he said.
Andrews said that when a man talks about marriage and children, and when he openly admits and shows proof that he has dropped the ex’s and booty calls, they are signs that he is in love with his partner.
“And finally, if he tries to be open about his whereabouts and demonstrates he has nothing to hide, like giving you access to his personal belongings and electronic items and if he is still with you after one year and the love and sex grow stronger, then he loves you,” Andrews advised.
Carl Osbourne a.k.a. Ozzy, who resides in St. Kitts, said love is a spiritual connection that would bind the hearts.
“So you must feel it,” he said. “Love is a two-way stream and is not so easily defined, but a work in progress.”
He said certain traits that would indicate to a woman that her man is in love with her would be respect, care, commitment, sharing and communication.
“Those are the ingredients that you will pick up along the way. If they are not there then it is just infatuation. Some of us mistake that for love and, in a nutshell, it’s called lust,” he said.
