BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has up the ante in its fight against crime, and a significant improvement is noticeable in the removal of illegal firearms from off the streets.
The most recent removal occurred yesterday (Apr. 11) during a series of operations launched in the Basseterre area by the Anti-Gang Unit.
According to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with responsibility for Crime, Joseph Liburd, at number of homes and abandoned buildings in the Basseterre area were searched on Sunday and at approximately 11:00 a.m. police found a 12-gauge shotgun and three cartridges in an abandoned building in Irish Town.
“Later that day, police found a 1.38 pistol with nine rounds of ammunition and a quantity of cocaine and crack hidden in the backyard of an elderly couple in the Newtown area,” Liburd added.
ACP Liburd was in high praise of the public for the recent find and also many of those in the past five years.
“I wish to thank the public for their invaluable support as we seek to rid the country of illegal firearms. To this end, we crave their continued support,” he said.
