BASSSETERRE, St. Kitts – FROM time immemorial, it is believed that men tell twice as many lies as women. It is also said that most of them do not have a reason for lying and there is no logic behind it.
No man/woman is perfect and, as it is with making mistakes, only humans tell lies. However, while it is a norm among many men, most women only lie when it is absolutely necessary, especially when it is to get themselves out of a serious situation.
From this backdrop, SKNVibes PEP took to the street and asked a few men…“Why do men lie to women?”
A a young man, who calls himself Neighbour, said, “Men lie to save face…it just comes natural and woman just can’t handle the truth.”
“We lie because we love our women and don’t want to hurt them. The more we lie, the more we love,” said Kesean.
Seth was short and simple when he said men lie for the same reason women do.
A smiling Shawn said, “The funny thing is some of us may lie just by answering this question.” He went on to say, “I guess it varies on the circumstances; however it’s usually to cover up a previous lie, not necessarily to get into the good books but to stay in the good books.”
A cable technician, who wanted to be referred to as De-Realist, said that men lie because ladies give them reason to do so.
Das said, “We lie for the same reason women do; to get out of compromising situations. When the truth will hurt, we comfort it with a lie.”
A married man name CJ said, “Men lie to spare the feelings of the other person.” He added that “me, on the other hand, prefer to play dodge ball rather than telling a lie; meaning, I would find ways to get around certain questions instead of answering them”.
“Why do men lie to women? Hmmm, I can’t speak for all men but at least for myself. I guess sometimes it is just easier to tell a lie because sometimes when you tell the truth other questions arise and you don’t really want to get to deep into certain topics because we all know women can go on and on about nothing. Therefore, we tend to tell a little lie hoping it never comes back around to haunt us,” said Akeem, a father of two.
Very often it is said that women cannot handle the truth, but is this really so? Would we prefer if the men spared hurting our feelings? Or do we prefer the truth no matter what the consequences are?
Think about it, how many of us would really break up a relationship because our partner told a lie. And if we did, would it not create a situation where almost everyone would have been single?
