BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - IT is almost that time again when the residents of Cayon and other persons from St. Kitts and Nevis celebrate that community’s annual festival. taking place this year from May 14 to 24.

It is uniquely called the Green Valley Festival and will take place from Friday, May 14 to Monday, May 24.

This is the longest lasting community festival in the Federation to date and is normally a highly anticipated one.

Although the quality of the festival has decreased over the years due to a number of reasons, with sponsorship being one, the Green Valley Festival Committee continues to try and maintain the name of the annual event.

SKNVibes contacted Chairman of the Festival Vernon Benjamin to enquire about plans for this year. He said, so far, plans are looking up and going okay. “The calypsonians have been registering and we have already secured Jamaican artiste Serani for the International Night.”

Benjamin said five contestants have already been approached for the Miss Green Valley Pageant and another one is expected to join them to make the contest a battle of six.

The official opening of the festival takes place at Maynard’s Park in Cayon on Thursday, May 20 and will be followed by the Queen and Junior Calypso Show on May 21. The Senior Calypso Show will be held on the following night. Sunday, May 23 will be the much anticipated International Night and the following Monday will be the J’Ouvert, Parade of Troupes and Last Lap session bringing the 2010 Festival to an end.

The reigning Miss Green Valley is Natasha Benjamin, who amassed a total of 589 points and took the awards for Miss Photogenic, Best Talent and Best African Wear
