SMI releases new music video - ‘Why You Still Here?’

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SANDY POINT’S leading rapper/Hip-Hop artiste SMI has brought the ‘fire’ once again with his latest single ‘Why You Still Here’ and its music video.

The song, which features the talented vocals of a fellow Sandy Pointer and former member of the Boys of Standard music group, O.L, was written by SMI and produced by a young man who goes by the name of ‘Auvieux’.

Born Gustave Smith and a member of Sparkling Entertainment, SMI told SKNVibes that the song was about his personal relationship with his girlfriend during a given period.

“Yes, this song is based on my relationship during the time period 07-08. This is not how it is now, but just a love story I’m sharing with my fans.

“I have no problem putting this kinda material out there. On my previous albums I have put out personal material with situations with my mom and political issues, and also about my real love as well. But this is the first time I’m putting out a personal song as a hit single,” he said.

He said that people identify more with music that reflects real life situations. “Like when I did ‘I stay fresh’, the public and fans knew I stay fresh for real. I feel a lot of people can relate to the song.

Some people may be going through the same things, plus a song like this was never done…asking your lovers why they are still here, based on stuff that they are complaining about,” he said.

The song will be featured on his upcoming album H.O.A.C, which is the acronym for Heart Of A Champion. He has not announced a date for its release as yet.

“I’m working on singles to put out in rotation on air, in the clubs and stuff like that. So right now me and my team, Sparkling Entertainment, are in the process of getting our music published and copy written to sell singles on Itunes and other international websites,” Smith said.

In terms of the video, which was produced by Tru Capo and directed by himself and Nigel ‘Capo’ Lewis, it co-stars his real-life girlfriend Desiree Herbert who plays a similar role. Some of the scenes include the couple arguing, making up and going through their everyday life.

“The screen play is a lot of arguing and some good times. It’s very energetic and passionate. Anyone that’s in a relationship can relate. No relationship is perfect, so there will be ups and downs,” he said. “The video matches the song word for word, with the exception of my daughter who was in school for the available days we had for shooting. And it’s nothing like any other videos in SK; the drama in the video makes it different.”

The video was officially released on PEP TV last night at 8:00 p.m. on channel 24 in St. Kitts and channel eight in Nevis.
