The fuel surcharge is to be reduced for specific categories of electricity consumers, St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas announced Monday.
He told thousands of cheering workers, supporters and nationals at the Patsy Allers Recreation and listening by radio that government has been reviewing a number of its programmes and that the reduced fuel surcharge will take effect from the billing for the month of June.
Prime Minister Douglas said that over the next few weeks the details of the categories of consumers who will either benefit from the reduction or exemption will be disclosed.

it was going to become increasingly difficult for some of our citizens to continue to pay the fuel surcharge," said Prime Minister Douglas, who pointed out that every citizen in the twin-island Federation, "has the right to modern utilities like electricity."
"I want to advise that from the billing on the first day of June, most of you here will no longer have to pay the fuel surcharge," said Prime Minister Douglas, who disclosed that the Cabinet will continue to review the work started by the Ministries of Public Utilities and Social Development.
He said consumers who continue to conserve electricity and energy "will also benefit by not having to pay the fuel surcharge."
