BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A man was shot last night (Apr. 16) in Newton Ground and is currently hospitalised in stable condition.

Reports reaching this media house, which were confirmed by Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, state that one Shaheed Williams is nursing a bullet wound in the Joseph n France General Hospital.

“Last night, officers at the Sandy Point Police Station responded to a shooting incident that occurred in Newton Ground between 9:00 and 9:45. On arrival, investigations revealed that Shaheed Williams of St. Paul’s Village was shot in Newton Ground in the vicinity of Island Purified Water,” Henderson said.

In response to which part of the body was Williams shot, Henderson said because of poor visibility in the night and the urgency in getting the victim to the hospital, police were unable to ascertain the injured part of his anatomy.

The Inspector however informed that investigations led to police acquiring the name of a suspect whom they are currently in search of. He further informed that Williams is in stable condition and investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the post mortem results of Edson Denvil Jeffers, also known as Elvan Warner, of Molineux were made public.

According to a police press release, forensic pathologist Dr. Steven Jones performed an autopsy on Warner’s body yesterday (Apr. 16) and found that he died as a result of gunshot injury to his chest and abdomen, resulting in hemorrhage and shock.

Warner was killed in Phillip’s Village on Tuesday (Apr. 13), just three days after the shooting death of an elderly couple in Half Moon Bay.

According to residents of the village, sometime after 7:00 p.m. they were aroused by the sound of gunfire, and on investigating the lifeless body of Warner was seen lying on the left side of David Road at the entrance of a dirt track leading to Woodley Hill.

The 45-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene by District Medical Officer Dr. Udo. A release said the scene was processed by the crime scene officers and a number of spent shells were discovered.

To date, no suspect has been held responsible for his death; however, investigations into this homicide are also ongoing.

Warner’s death has taken the number of homicides committed in the twin-island Federation to 13 for this year; nine on St. Kitts and four on Nevis.
